Contact point European Urban Initiative
The Danish Town Planning Institute has been designated as the contact point for the European Urban Initiative. In short, we help you access the knowledge you need and take advantage of the opportunities available through the European Urban Initiative.
What is the European Urban Initiative?
The European Urban Initiative is an EU program that supports cities of all sizes in building capacity and knowledge, fostering innovation, and developing transferable and scalable solutions to urban challenges with relevance across the EU.
The initiative has a total budget of €450 million from the European Regional Development Fund for the 2021–2027 period.
It aims to create opportunities and an enabling environment for the implementation of ambitious urban strategies. The projects are intended to test new solutions, techniques, and planning models, build capacity, and share knowledge on sustainable urban development.
The European Urban Initiative focuses on three main areas:
Innovative Actions – Supporting urban authorities by enabling cities to serve as testing grounds for their innovative ideas and transfer them to other cities.
Capacity Building – Strengthening the capacity of cities to design sustainable urban development strategies, policies, and practices in an integrated and inclusive way. Support is available for international collaboration through peer-reviews and city-to-city exchange
Knowledge Building & Communication – Creating knowledge ecosystems that ensure easier access to expertise and the sharing of best practices in sustainable urban development. For example, knowledge can be found on Portico, our knowledge-sharing and community platform for sustainable urban development in the EU, run by the European Urban Initiative. Portico also hosts the Portico Community, which offers networking and peer-learning opportunities for urban developers and practitioners across the EU.
The national contact point in Denmark is the Danish Town Planning Institute. We collaborate closely with the national contact point for URBACT, located in the Danish Business Authority, as well as with the EUI Secretariat in Lille, France.
At the national level, the contact point actively participates in networks and supports exchanges between cities. Would you like to know more? Are you working on urban agendas and projects, and curious whether the EUI could be relevant for you? Then reach out to project manager Mads Angelsø.
