We are hereby introducing the Speculative Fiction Reading Club! A small, informal gathering hosted at Dansk Byplanlaboratorium, where we read and talk about speculative stories that deal with cities, landscapes, and ways of living, both familiar and strange. Together, we investigate the question of “what if?” , exploring alternative futures, possibilities, and realities. Through alien and imagined worlds and thought experiments, we discuss ideas of utopias, dystopias, and spatial imagination, and how these might reflect on our own thinking and questions about the spaces around us.
We’ll provide some tea, and perhaps some biscuits. The atmosphere will be informal, and all are welcome.
The first meeting is on Monday 16th of march, where we will begin with two texts/books by the brilliant Ursula K. Le Guin:
The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction (1986)
The Word for World Is Forest (1972)
Ursula K. Le Guin (1929–2018) was one of the most influential voices in science fiction and speculative literature.
